Ethereal Designs is a leading consultancy firm in the field of Architectural Lighting Design and one of the earliest to establish practice in India. We have 2 offices; Mumbai (since 2002) and Delhi (since 2016).
The role of light in our life goes so far beyond visibility and security & beautification of space. It governs the well-being and experience of a person or an environment. We as much like to address the subject as lighting for humans. At Ethereal Designs, while we approach the project from the aspects of energy, comfort, safety, daylight integration, sustainability, environment, we use light as a tool for expression.
Ethereal Designs does not consider Lighting as stand alone by itself; we work in sync with Architecture, Interior, Landscape Design. Our projects span a whole range from facade to landscape, commercial to residential, industrial to hospitality, heritage to urban scale, mall to museum, educational institution to sports in varying scales.
Seminars, Educations & Publications
The Principals’ interviews & works have been published internationally including in ‘Light & Emotions- A conversation with 47 Lighting Designers’. They have presented papers internationally the latest being at the Asia Lighting Design Forum 2010 in Seoul and have also conducted workshops and lead seminars in various institutes & organisations. They are also making their contribution in providing lighting education in India by teaching the subject in IES college of Architecture as weekly visiting faculties.
Our Principals
Vilas Prabhu
The founder, Vilas, has been in the field since 1987. He has worked as a lighting designer with Crompton Greaves India, Delta Lighting Muscat and as the Design partner in Shobha Light Design, Hyderabad. He has experience in the various fields of lighting particularly optics/ photometry, lighting survey & lighting energy audits. Owing to his engineering education and vast experience in lighting design, he brings in a strong component of technical know-how and sensitivity to the environment.
Jaspreet Chandhok
Jaspreet is an architect by qualification and lighting designer by self study and practice. Of her over 20 years of experience in lighting, she parallely practiced architecture for nearly 4 years, working on institutions with daylight integrating architecture, earthquake resistant designs and retail. Also having done a design dissertation on mental health care centre with special emphasis on the effect of light and colour on human physiology and psychology, she brings forth an emphasis on the human element in design.
